A Legacy of Leadership, Integrity, and Service
The AJAX family is deeply saddened by the passing of our founder, David Alan Baker, on July 17, 2026.
David’s vision, work ethic, and commitment to doing business the right way helped shape AJAX into the company it is today. The values he established—quality, integrity, dependable service, and strong relationships—continue to guide our team more than 50 years later.
Building AJAX
In 1973, David and his wife, Mary Anne, founded Jacksonville Bolt and Screw Company, which would later become AJAX Company.
What began as a local fastener business grew into a successful company with multiple branches throughout the Southeast. David’s entrepreneurial spirit, industry knowledge, and dedication to customers helped establish AJAX as a trusted name in the fastener industry.
He believed that lasting success was built through hard work, reliable products, responsive service, and treating people with respect. Those principles remain central to how AJAX serves its customers today.
Leadership in the Fastener Industry
David’s influence extended beyond the company he founded.
In 1986, he was honored as the Jacksonville Small Business Leader of the Year. He also served on the board of the National Fastener Distributors Association, where he shared his experience and helped support the continued growth of the industry.
His leadership, knowledge, and willingness to serve others earned the respect of customers, employees, business partners, and peers throughout the fastener community.
Service to His Country and Community
Before beginning his business career, David proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1959 to 1962, attaining the rank of Corporal.
He remained deeply committed to serving others throughout his life. David was a founding member of the Oceanside Rotary Club, served as its president, and was honored as a Paul Harris Fellow.
He also served as president of the Board of Directors of the Boys & Girls Club. More than 20 years ago, he helped raise funds to build the Beaches Boys & Girls Club, now known as the McKenzie Wilson Boys & Girls Club. His efforts helped create opportunities for thousands of children and families throughout the community.
An Enduring Legacy
David will be remembered for his integrity, generosity, leadership, faith, and commitment to his family, company, industry, and community.
We are grateful for the business he built, the values he established, and the example he set. His influence remains an important part of AJAX, and his legacy will continue through the people and relationships he touched.
Our thoughts are with Mary Anne, the Baker family, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing and working with David.
